This week we take a step away from research and do the first quarter check-in. I talk about motivation, insecurities, and future plans. The podcast has hit over 6k downloads and is listened to in over 20 countries. We are switching gears for quarter 2. Can’t wait to bring on next quarter’s guests!

Researcher highlight:

Teressa M Alexander @teressamelca is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in plant physiology in the University of The West Indies, Trinidad focused on linking genotypic differences to drought tolerance in Theobroma cacao under climate change.

After achieving a BSc degree in Physics and conducting research from cancer biology to biomechanics, she became a research scholars initiative fellow at Harvard University for 2 years. At Harvard, her passion for plant eco-physiology grew and with a strong desire to work on tropical plant models, she took a graduate position in The University of the West Indies, Trinidad.

Further, her dedication to science journalism, education and policy, she plans to (1) increase the visibility of scientific research in the Caribbean, (2) provide young prospective Caribbean scientists with critical information on pathways to college and STEM career preparation, (3) and accurately inform environmental policies.
